Interior Design Assistant

Interior designer picking materials

Are you an interior design graduate (or soon-to-be) who’s eager to break into the industry? This hybrid role starts out supporting the administrative and operational side of a design-build company, with a path to transition into a full-time design position.

We’re looking for someone organized, reliable, and humble enough to learn the business from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to join an award-winning team and build deep knowledge of how high-end remodeling projects are executed—giving you a solid foundation before stepping fully into a design role.

Who We Are

Thayer Design Build is a residential remodeling company based in Corvallis, Oregon. We specialize in high-quality, design-driven renovations and need a sharp, capable team member to help keep our design and operations running smoothly.

What You’ll Do

This is a hybrid position that starts primarily administrative, supporting our design, production, and office teams. As you grow and gain experience, design responsibilities will be gradually added.

Administrative & Project Coordination (initial focus):

  • Manage daily office operations—scheduling, paperwork, mail, and deliveries
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and clients professionally
  • Support sales, marketing, production, and design teams
  • Organize and maintain design samples and finish libraries
  • Pick up and deliver materials, samples, and supplies
  • Schedule and track subcontractor work and quotes
  • Take site measurements and perform 3D scans
  • Keep project systems, documents, and calendars organized
  • Assist with material selections and presentation prep as design responsibilities grow
  • Learn our tools and systems with the goal of becoming a full-time designer

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field (or graduating in 2025)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • A positive, humble attitude and a willingness to do a variety of tasks
  • Interest in a long-term design career, starting from the foundation
  • Proficiency with basic digital tools (email, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Revvit, AutoCAD, SketchUp or similar design software

Why Join Us?

  • A clear path to grow into a full-time design role
  • A collaborative, high-performing work environment
  • A supportive team that values input and encourages growth
  • Competitive compensation and recognition for excellent work
  • Regular team events, professional development, and a positive culture

Benefits

  • Competitive pay and consistent raises
  • Profit-sharing bonuses
  • Full-time, year-round work
  • Paid time off (Holidays + Vacation + Sick)
  • Health, Vision, Dental, and Life Insurance
  • 401k with employer matching
  • Continued training and education
  • Additional team perks

Pay: $22-26 /hour (depending on experience)
