Our Design-Build Process

Behind every successful remodel is successful planning and design. Over the years, Thayer Design Build has refined its processes to provide a predictable and enjoyable remodeling experience.

STEP 1

Discovery

Let’s make sure we’re the right fit.

Before we design anything, we want to understand you, your home, and what you’re hoping to accomplish.

Introductory Call

We’ll start with a conversation about your project, including your goals, general scope, desired timeline, and anticipated investment.

We’ll also discuss initial project cost ranges so you can determine whether moving forward makes sense before investing in design.

If it looks like we’re a good fit, we’ll schedule an in-home Discovery Meeting.

In-Home Discovery Meeting

We’ll meet with you at your home, walk through the space, listen to what is working and what isn’t, and develop a deeper understanding of what you want your remodel to accomplish.

We’ll answer your questions, explain our process, and determine whether Concept Design is the right next step.

STEP 2

Design

Our design process is broken into two clear steps: Concept Design and Detailed Design.

Concept Design

We start by exploring the possibilities.

We measure your home, develop design concepts, and establish realistic budget ranges for the different directions your project could take.

This gives you clarity around the design, scope, and investment before moving deeper into the details.

Concept Design is backed by our 100% money-back guarantee. If you don’t believe we delivered value equal to what you paid, we’ll refund your Concept Design fee.

Detailed Design

Once we’ve chosen the right direction, we develop everything needed to prepare your project for construction.

We refine the plans, complete selections, coordinate engineering and trade partners, and finalize the scope and construction price.

STEP 3

Build

This is where the plans become your home.

Once design is complete and we’ve entered into a construction agreement, our production team takes over the day-to-day responsibility for bringing the project to life.

Pre-Construction

Before demolition begins, we’ll hold an on-site pre-construction meeting so everyone understands the plan.

We’ll finalize scheduling and permitting, stage materials, coordinate our trade partners, and install site protection designed to control dust and minimize disruption to your home and family.

Construction

Your project will have a dedicated Project Manager responsible for coordinating the work, communicating with you, and making sure the project meets our standards.

Throughout construction, our team works to keep your home and jobsite organized, safe, and professionally managed.

Close Out

As construction reaches completion, we’ll work through the final details, complete punch-list items, close out permits, and professionally clean the space so it’s ready for you to enjoy.

You’ll also receive the important documentation associated with your remodel.

Then it’s time to enjoy what we built together.

STEP 4

Aftercare

Your contractor for life.

Our relationship doesn’t end when construction does.

We stand behind our work with a 10-year limited warranty, and we’ll continue checking in after your remodel is complete.

If something needs our attention, we’re here.

And as a past client, you’ll always have a relationship with a team that already knows you and your home.

Why Design Build

Design build is a comprehensive approach to home renovation and remodeling that offers a wealth of benefits to homeowners. With design build, you work with a single team that handles everything from planning and design to construction and completion, ensuring a seamless and streamlined process from start to finish.

Your Home – Designed and Remodeled in One Relationship.

Ease of Communication

One of the key benefits of design build is the ease of communication. Because you’re working with a single team, there’s no need to worry about miscommunication or delays caused by working with multiple companies. With everyone on the same page and working towards the same goal, your project is much more likely to be completed on time and on budget.

One Vision

Another advantage of design build is the one vision that it provides. When working with multiple companies, each may have their own ideas about what your project should look like and how it should be run. With a design build firm, you get the benefit of a single, unified vision that’s tailored to your specific needs and goals. This ensures that your project is completed in a way that you’re happy with, and that everything is done to your exact specifications.

Accountability

Another benefit of design build is accountability. When you work with separate companies, it can be difficult to manage everything and keep everyone on track. With a design build firm, the company is responsible for everything, from start to finish. This means that you can focus on your daily life while the experts handle all the details of your renovation.

Fewer Errors

Finally, the design build method offers fewer errors compared to working with multiple companies. Because everything is managed by one point of contact, there are fewer chances for miscommunication or misunderstandings. This results in a higher quality renovation that’s completed with fewer mistakes and setbacks.

In conclusion, design build is a comprehensive and streamlined approach to home renovation and remodeling that offers numerous benefits over working with multiple companies. From ease of communication and one vision to accountability and fewer errors, design build is the ideal choice for homeowners looking to renovate their home.
