Client Needs

As remodelers, the Thayers knew when they purchased this 1950s fixer-upper that the bathroom would be one of the first projects to tackle. There were several issues: the tub fixtures had a strange layout, the caulk was failing, and the shower door no longer worked. The wallpaper was peeling, storage was minimal, and the lighting was poor. Having only one sink and one shower head made bath time challenging for their family of five.

Solution

To start, we swapped out the tub for a shower with dual shower heads, a linear drain, and a large lighted niche with a glass enclosure. We installed a recessed medicine cabinet, custom walnut vanity with dual sinks, a waterfall edge countertop, and toe kick lighting. A heated tile floor with tile baseboards was also installed. Additional storage was created in the toilet area with a shelf and cabinet. A solar tube was added for more natural light along with recessed lighting. To add a touch of character, we incorporated bold hex and herringbone tile into the design.

Results

The final result is a clean, simple, modern, and open bathroom with tons of light! The added storage, dual sinks, and updated shower make it much more functional for our family’s needs. The new heated floor keeps the space warm and inviting. The bold hex and herringbone tile add character to the space and tie everything together.
