Client Needs
Shannon came to us because her kitchen felt cramped, isolated, lacked sufficient storage, and had poor lighting. The space was outdated, with a bearing wall separating it from the rest of the upper floor. The kitchen itself felt too small and lacked proper storage. In addition to being poorly laid out, the cabinets stopped short of the ceiling and were showing signs of wear. The bar top was cramped, and the flooring throughout the upper level was inconsistent—ranging from blue carpet to tile to hardwood. Additionally, her fireplace and mantle didn’t reflect her desired modern aesthetic.
Solution
Our team’s solution was to remove the bearing wall to open up the kitchen to the rest of the upper floor. We expanded the kitchen by taking over the existing dining room space, allowing for significantly more storage and function. A large island was added with ample seating and storage. We closed off an unnecessary doorway to improve flow and allow for floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinets. We redid the lighting to brighten the entire space. The flooring throughout the upper level was replaced with consistent hardwood, seamlessly blended to match. We also updated the fireplace tile surround and mantle. The dining area was relocated to the next room, providing a better layout for daily living and entertaining.
Results
The finished project features a spacious, open kitchen that seamlessly connects to the rest of the home. Custom cabinetry—including a bold green finish—provides excellent functionality and visual impact. Consistent hardwood flooring ties the space together beautifully, and the updated fireplace surround brings the details to life.
