Client Needs
Our Portland-based client approached us seeking our expertise to revive their neglected guest cabin located on a spacious Alsea property. The project entailed a comprehensive renovation, encompassing everything from the foundation to the roof, and interior to exterior improvements. With their busy schedules, our clients needed a reliable and experienced contractor who could provide seamless digital communication throughout the process and ensure their vision for the cabin was brought to life.
Solution
We approached the project methodically, starting by clearing out everything that needed to go while preserving the existing flooring, wall paneling, and other items.
Next, we re-poured the foundation and added the missing stormwater drainage. We reframed the troubled walls and installed new electrical wiring throughout. The plumbing system was upgraded, including new supply lines, drains, and a tank to filter, hold, and pressurize the creek water. After adding new insulation, we replaced the siding, roof, and gutters.
We installed fiberglass exterior and fir wood interior windows, and replaced the outdated wood stove with a newer, more efficient model (installed after photos were taken).
For the interior finishes, we completed the drywall and painting, installed fir doors and millwork. The client chose Knotty pine shaker cabinetry, quartzite countertops, and a subway tile splash for the kitchen. In the bathroom, we added a new vanity, stackable washer and dryer, and a new tub with tiled surround. Custom built-in closet cabinetry was installed in the master and guest bedrooms.
We wrapped up the project by refinishing the existing floors and installing new appliances.
Results
The renovated cabin now serves as a comfortable and inviting guest house, combining the warmth of its rustic heritage with the convenience of modern amenities. We took an uninhabitable space and transformed it into a charming retreat that perfectly captures the spirit of the original cabin.
