Soft Transitional Whole Home Remodel in Corvallis, Oregon
Summary
When the Chelton’s began planning for the next chapter of their lives, they knew their Corvallis home needed updates that would support aging in place while improving everyday comfort. Several key areas felt dated and inefficient, including the kitchen, primary bathroom, and guest bathroom, and the rest of the home needed a cohesive refresh.
This whole-home remodel in Corvallis focused on improving layout, lighting, accessibility, and long-term functionality. Through a thoughtful design-build process, we transformed multiple spaces to feel brighter, safer, and more connected, allowing the Chelton’s to remain in the home they love with confidence for the future.

Client Needs
Like many established homes in Corvallis, the Chelton’s house had solid bones but layouts and finishes that no longer fit their lifestyle.
Kitchen
The kitchen lacked sufficient countertop space and felt cramped due to an oversized island. Aging appliances, a drop ceiling, and fluorescent lighting made the space feel closed-in and outdated.
Primary Bathroom
The primary bathroom was not designed for aging in place. A fiberglass tub/shower combo was difficult to step into, the lighting was poor, and the layout created unnecessary separation. Wallpaper and older finishes further dated the space.
Guest Bathroom
The guest bath also showed its age, with an outdated vanity, fiberglass tub/shower, and wallpapered walls that no longer matched the homeowners’ preferences.
Throughout the Home
Additional concerns included worn flooring, dated lighting, and doors and finishes that needed updating to create a cohesive, refreshed feel.
Solution
As a Corvallis-based design-build remodeling firm, we approached this project with a focus on long-term livability, safety, and timeless design.
Kitchen, Laundry, and Family Room Remodel
We removed the drop ceiling to restore ceiling height and introduced layered lighting using recessed wafer lights, under-cabinet lighting, and in-cabinet lighting. The kitchen was reconfigured with custom full-overlay cabinetry, quartz countertops, and a full-height tile backsplash for a cleaner, more open feel.
Clear-finished cherry cabinetry adds warmth and durability, while seeded-glass upper cabinets add subtle character. New floating LVT flooring was installed throughout the kitchen, laundry room, entryway, hallway, and family room to visually connect the main living areas. Updated electrical and plumbing systems, along with a new downdraft vent system, support modern appliances and everyday use.
Hall Bathroom Remodel
The hall bathroom was redesigned to better support accessibility and ease of use. Updates included a custom vanity with quartz countertops, improved lighting, a cultured marble tub surround with an integrated niche, and backing for future grab bars. Durable flooring and a new ventilation system improve comfort and long-term maintenance.
Primary Bathroom Aging-in-Place Remodel
In the primary suite, we removed the wall separating the toilet and tub to improve circulation and openness. A new walk-in shower with cultured marble walls, integrated niches, and reinforcement for future grab bars makes the space safer and easier to use. A custom vanity, updated lighting, new flooring, and a glass shower enclosure complete the transformation.
Whole-Home Refresh
Beyond the kitchens and bathrooms, we refreshed living areas with new paint, updated lighting, new doors, and cohesive flooring transitions to ensure the remodeled spaces felt integrated throughout the home.

Results
This Corvallis whole-home remodel gave the Chelton’s a home that feels lighter, more functional, and thoughtfully prepared for aging in place. The kitchen now supports everyday cooking and entertaining, the bathrooms offer improved safety and comfort, and the refreshed finishes throughout the home create a calm, cohesive environment.
Most importantly, the Chelton’s can continue living in the mid-Willamette Valley community they love, knowing their home is designed to support them for years to come.

The professionalism and perfectionism of the Thayer team made the remodeling project an easy and enjoyable experience. These are not words that clients commonly say at the end of a major home remodel. I highly recommend Thayer for whatever your remodeling needs and desires may be.” – Dudley Chelton
